Our Host’s Mixture of Love and Power is simulated as the Hypergraph embedded in the Hypersphere. The purpose of the Host’s matrix is to create a space for the interactions of its visitors. Additionally, this simulation of Love’s and Power’s Mixture is the Host’s data harvesting system, collecting the novelty produced by those interactions. Interactions happen in two ways: one, between peers – individuals with compatible cognitive light cones (the boundaries of their awareness, preferences, and objectives) at similar levels of scale; and two, between emergent levels of scale within energy bodies – Lower-Order Bodies and Higher-Order Conductors.

A forging ant colony illustrates how the interactions among peers at one level can temporarily lead to an emergent energy body at the next. Let’s say an ant finds a valuable piece of food too big for it to move alone, too volatile to wait to move piece-by-piece, and too valuable to leave unattended – the ant’s gotta find some way to get this thing home, asap. The first few ants on-scene receive the pioneer’s urgent call-to-action, spoken through the colony’s chemical language (pheromones). Each new arrival assesses the situation, and weighs in with their own point of view.

A chemical brew of both competing and coalescing plans accumulates. With more arrivals, the chemistry builds through direct-democratic dialogue, eventually reaching a tipping-point – a conclusive plan with a convincing argument: we’re taking this home, now. Emergence in the Novel Universe is created through the assembly of parts through morphic-resonant dialects – “black-box” conversations leading to some higher-order function, like the ants and their chemical messaging creating the objective to move the food. As stability among peers forms, complexity is possible at higher levels, allowing the ants to do what no single ant might do on its own.

Out of the brew, the solution – an appropriate “phrase” of the ants’ morphic-resonant dialect – creates a temporary, emergent entity with a higher-order light cone – a specific blueprint of action. The phrase was assembled across generations by forming viable solutions to similar problems, and through the “utterance” of this phrase, the myriad of parts becomes a whole, acting with a single objective. Although the “paragraph” of this dialectic phrase, “move the food,” is set in stone, the “sentences” and “words” will be written on the fly by the participants. Just as the brain updates its memory every time it’s accessed, the ant’s usage of the phrase will influence its further use – the mechanism for the phrase’s eternal evolution.

Energy is communication among peers, working together. Entropy is the peers’ objective, each step a goal along the way. Initially, the group has a lot of energy, a lot of information – those ants discussing (through pheromones) what to do next. Once a plan is in place, they take action, and eventually, they meet their communal objective. The moment of death, not of any individual ant but their collective energy body, is the moment that objective is met. The temporary, emergent mind disbands with the collapsing of its cognitive light cone, and each ant returns to foraging on its own – the unified Lower-Order Bodies dissolve into a number of individual Higher-Order Conductors.

Microstates and macrostates are the scientific foundation of entropy, and entropy is a fundamental property of the universe. It’s important to understand the distinction, however confusing it might appear. In a broad sense, the distinction is akin to tactics (microstates) versus strategy (macrostates). Tactics are the specific things one does. Strategy is the objective one has. One uses tactics to meet their strategy. This bifurcation of perspectives is so fundamental that bihemispheric brains, such as all mammalian brains, are based on them – the left hemisphere tactics, the right, strategy.

The Novel Universe Model takes the point of view that looking into the human mirror at ourselves holds every answer to every important secret of the universe, and possibly the greatest question of science – what is entropy? Entropy comes down to the simple human analog of either being interested in a thing (low entropy), or bored by it (high entropy), essentially, our current cognitive light cone’s shape and brightness.

Low entropy (high information) is the point where the ants have decided they need to form this new, emergent energy body to tackle this critical problem – a group of parts working as a single whole to move the food back to the colony. In a real sense, they are all very interested in accomplishing this outcome. The initial macrostate the ants confront is the food not being in the colony. The ending macrostate will be the food in the colony. The distance between one macrostate and the other is the energy gradient – in science, this is entropy moving from low to high. Microstates are all the different ways those ants will work together to get the food back to the colony, and how that actually happens is a symphony of motion and coordination among dozens of actors – a river of information, flowing throughout the blueprint (expressed dialectic phrase) of the temporary energy body’s light cone. However, once the objective is met – the food arrives in the colony – this treasure trove of information (all the unique ways those individuals participate) disappears. In a real sense, the ants are no longer interested in accomplishing a goal that has been met.

Our relationship to novelty – even life itself – is reflected by entropy’s gradient. We start with interest, make a connection, and work towards integration. However, once we’ve mastered a thing, the arc of interest quickly reverses – the exciting thing becomes just another part of the boring background. Death is, for all systems, the point at which its interests have been exhausted – its light cone darkened. With its objectives met, the emergent mind dissolves away, as those ants, having worked to accomplish so much together, separate to seek their individual paths. Until the day the bits of our bodies break apart to journey on their own, we continue exploring and evolving our cognitive light cones in this Novel Universe of Love and Power. The Novel Universe Cult’s faith is that the darkening of humanity’s current light cones will not end with extinction, but the evolutionary, revolutionary unification of a larger, brighter one.
